Simbec-Orion provides full-service clinical development solutions for small and mid-size drug developers. Their specialist expertise lies in clinical pharmacology, oncology and rare diseases.
The Challenge
Simbec-Orion had a vast portfolio of over 200 projects across their IT and operational departments, managed by around 15 employees. They were using external cloud-based products that were not customisable or specific to the organisation’s requirements.
As Microsoft 365 license users, Simbec-Orion wanted to get the most out of their license, by incorporating projects into a single application that could also easily integrate into other applications. However, they did not have the capacity and resources to do this.
The Solution
To improve visibility of projects across departments, enabling Simbec-Orion to easily manage projects, portfolios and programmes all in one place, iCoTech implemented iCoPlan. iCoPlan is a predefined Project Management Tool utilising the Power Platform within Microsoft 365. iCoTech were able to modify the tool to meet the specific requirements of Simbec-Orion’s programmes and methodologies.
Power BI is one of the key applications integrated into iCoPlan, which is something Simbec-Orion were keen to utilise. This implementation enabled them to visualise data, deliver key insights, and provide compelling reports that are easy to draw decisions from.
Total deployment and configuration of iCoPlan took 2 weeks, enabling Simbec-Orion to migrate to their new Project Portfolio Management tool with ease.
The Results
Implementation of iCoPlan enabled Simbec Orion to gain many benefits for their vast portfolio of projects, including the following:
- They now have a Project Portfolio Management tool all in single platform, rather than having to use multiple products and applications.
- iCoPlan gives the CIO and decision makers visibility of all the change activity going on across the portfolio.
- Power BI implementation allows them to Control Project spend, Risks & Issues with dynamic reports. As well as Reporting on the status of a Project using the automated Status Report.
- They can now utilise their Microsoft 365 license to its full potential and no longer have to outsource to third party applications.
