iCoTech are striving to be more sustainable in the way we work in the office. We are doing everything we can to reduce our carbon footprint and play our part in saving the planet. A carbon footprint is a way to visualise how many greenhouse gases a person or organisation produces. The bigger your carbon footprint, the more you are contributing to global warming and climate change. This is something we feel passionate about combatting to ensure our workplace is as environmentally friendly as possible.
We have always prided ourselves in being a paper-free office. Some people may think the terms ‘paper-free’ and ‘office’ completely juxtapose, but with modern technology becoming more and more advanced, gone are the days where documents are kept in folders, filing cabinets and notebooks. We operate using a cloud-based platform to store, organise, share and access information from any device. Although paper waste is generally recyclable, we want to still reduce our use of materials where we can, which will in turn reduce our waste. As well as the waste aspect, by using an online platform such as Microsoft SharePoint, it is much easier to search for the file you need, rather than going through a heap of paper files. Meaning that reducing paper waste is also beneficial for business productivity – winner winner!
Following on from this, plastic bottles are non-biodegradable, meaning that they will not decompose or get absorbed by nature. A lot of plastic waste ends up in the ocean and causes death and harm to marine wildlife. These are just a couple of reasons why we have decided to make a change. By simply replacing plastic water bottles with a water machine and reusable bottles, iCoTech are now preventing over 2,000 plastic bottles being wasted every year – and that’s just in the workplace!
Although these changes seem small, they reduce our carbon footprint as a company. We want to continue to find ways where we can reduce the greenhouse gases we emit in order to be more sustainable and look after the planet we live in.
